Our History
The Company was originally incorporated with Ontario Letters Patent as "New Augarita Porcupine Mines Limited" on May 13, 1936. As a matter of historical interest, in 1952 the Company was involved in a landmark legal case (in the Supreme Court of Ontario), Gray vs New Augarita Porcupine Mines Limited [1952] 3 D.L.R. 1 (P.C.), which would later become known in law schools as "the classic statement of law with respect to the requisite content of statutory disclosure."
On November 10, 1987, the Company changed its name to "Royal Aerospace Corp.", later "Royal Diamond Casino Corp." (October 20, 1993), and then "Royal Group Capital Corp." (February 6, 1995).
On September 23, 1997, the Company changed its name to "Copper Hill Corporation". This change occurred in conjunction with a reverse takeover of the Corporation by Copper Hill Resources Inc. Copper Hill Corporation was the legal parent. Under its new name, the Company held mineral exploration properties in Newfoundland, Labrador and Nunavut.
On February 13, 2004, Copper Hill Corporation changed its name to "Viking Gold Exploration Inc." and consolidated all outstanding common shares on a 4:1 basis. As a result, the Company’s new trading symbol on the TSX-V became “VGC” and its share consolidation was effective February 17, 2004. The Company's exploration focus then shifted to properties in the Northwest Territories.
